We recently completed a bespoke fire alarm installation for a high-end private car park located just off The Mall, in the heart of London near Buckingham Palace. This project required not only precision and performance, but also strict attention to detail to meet the aesthetic and functional expectations of a prestigious location.
Client Brief & Design Considerations
The client, working closely with the project architect, required a fire detection system that was both robust and discreet. Due to the nature of the site — an underground car park in a high-security area — the system needed to be unobtrusive in appearance while delivering dependable early detection and clear alarm signalling.
The architect specified addressable devices to ensure quick identification of any alarm or fault condition within the system. We selected the Advanced MxPro5 control panel, a trusted and high-performance solution ideal for complex commercial and underground environments. This was paired with Hochiki addressable heat detectors and sounders, in full compliance with the project specification.
Installation Details
Control Equipment
Advanced MxPro5 Panel – chosen for its flexibility, reliability, and advanced configuration options
Devices & Detection Strategy:
40 galvanised conduit runs installed throughout the car park
Each conduit run contained 2 Hochiki addressable heat detectors
Wall-mounted addressable sounders installed on every fifth run to ensure comprehensive audible coverage
Cable Management & Aesthetic Requirements:
All tray-mounted cabling was secured using grey cable ties, a specific request from the architect to ensure that fixings remained inconspicuous from below
All containment was executed using galvanised conduit, ensuring mechanical protection, longevity, and a clean industrial finish suited to the car park environment
Project Execution & Challenges
Working within a secure and architecturally sensitive area posed logistical challenges — including restricted delivery times, limited access, and coordination with other trades on a tight schedule. Our team worked flexibly and in close communication with the site manager to ensure all work was completed safely, on time, and without disruption.
Attention to detail was critical on this project. Aesthetic expectations were high, particularly around how containment and devices would appear from pedestrian viewpoints. Our team maintained a consistently neat installation standard, ensuring uniform spacing, level conduit runs, and minimal visual impact.
We recently completed a customised fire alarm installation for a private residence in Hammersmith, West London. This project involved working closely with both the homeowner and the main building contractor to design a system that not only delivered advanced fire protection but also blended seamlessly with the home's unique interior design.
Client Brief & Collaboration
From the outset, the homeowner emphasised the importance of aesthetics and discretion. With each room in the house individually styled — and no shortage of colour across the property — it was essential that the fire detection system complemented, rather than clashed with, the home’s character.
We worked in close coordination with the builders and decorators to ensure that device placement, finish, and integration all met the high expectations of the client.
Installation Highlights
Detector Customisation:
Over 20 smoke detectors were installed throughout the home
10+ different colours were used to colour-match detectors to the ceiling finishes in each room
Each detector was professionally sprayed to match the exact ceiling colour, as requested by the homeowner
This ensured that every device blended discreetly into its surroundings without compromising on performance
Fire Alarm Control Panel:
A C-TEC CFP conventional fire panel was installed
This panel was selected for its reliability and compatibility with third-party systems
The panel was integrated with a fire curtain, designed to activate automatically in the event of a fire to compartmentalise and contain potential spread
Outcome & Client Satisfaction
The final result was a fully integrated fire detection system tailored to the property’s needs — both technically and visually. The homeowner was particularly impressed with the colour-matching of detectors, which maintained the clean aesthetic of each room without compromising safety.
This project is a strong example of how fire safety can be seamlessly woven into residential environments when planning, communication, and customisation come together.
